MCS Foundation grants $1.2M to 15 community groups
The MCS Foundation announced it will grant $1.2 million to 15 community organizations across Puerto Rico as part of its mission to address poverty and health-related social needs.
During its annual meeting with nonprofit partners, the foundation highlighted achievements from the past year that reached 15,000 people in more than 25 municipalities.
“At MCS Foundation, we aren’t waiting for the next hurricane to support those most in need, to bring them electricity, bedding, hygiene materials and other essential items for daily living,” said Elba Rivera, the foundation’s executive director. “The support and protection of the health and well-being of each of our citizens is our daily mission in Puerto Rico.”
The foundation also unveiled new “Continuity Programs” to expand its reach and long-term collaboration. Three initiatives will focus on training caregivers for seniors in partnership with the Central University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, San Juan Bautista School of Medicine and Casa Kai. Training will cover skills in primary care, health management and emotional support for Puerto Rico’s aging population.
Another program, the Golden Lunchbox, will provide nutritious meals to older adults recently discharged from hospitals. Implemented with the Puerto Rico Food Bank, Abbott, the Puerto Rico Hospital Association and the MCS Foundation, the program seeks to reduce hospital readmissions by ensuring patients continue to receive balanced meals during recovery.
More than 20 community organizations participated in the meeting, including AARP Puerto Rico, the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Grupo Guayacán, hospitals and federally qualified community health centers. The foundation said these collaborations reflect its commitment to creating a broad support network that addresses both emergency and ongoing social needs.
“We want to provide care beyond monetary support and continue putting MCS’s hands to work for complete health,” said Nancy Robles, the foundation’s newly appointed program director.
In 2025, MCS employees are expected to contribute more than 20,000 volunteer hours, adding to the 119,000 hours donated since 2018.
MCS contributes to the foundation with a dollar-for-dollar match of all donations received, reinforcing its ability to sustain and expand programs on the island.
