A group of 50 volunteers organized by the Puerto Rico Chapter of the International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners recently got together to clean up the Cerro Gordo beach and park in Vega Alta, which boasts one of the island’s most popular beaches.

The volunteers loaded scores of garbage bags of trash, including bottles, paper, cigarette butts, cans, tires and even personal items such as clothing, said Néstor Figueroa, president of IAMCP Puerto Rico.

“Area residents and visitors leave substantial amounts of garbage in the Cerro Gordo Forest. We urge that visitors who come to enjoy the beauty of area to take away with them the trash they generate and dispose of it properly. Among the materials collected we found,” Figueroa said. “We left the forest and beach clean, and now it’s up to the citizens to cooperate so that this is a lasting effort.”

The IAMCP headed the effort, which also took place around this time last year, rounding up volunteers from 10 partner companies, namely Fusionworks, GLC, KPG, Nagnoi, Open Link, Rock Solid Technologies and Software One.

The Cerro Gordo public beach and park in is run by Puerto Rico National Parks and has a spectacular beach, camping area with showers, restrooms, picnic areas, landscaping and kiosks. It also has a few walking trails and mountain biking facilities.

“Again we show our commitment to the environment and through these initiatives we strive to educate about the conservation of our coasts and the green areas of Puerto Rico,” Figueroa said.

The IAMCP of Puerto Rico brings together technology companies in Puerto Rico that are Microsoft certified partners and develops activities to improve the interaction of its members. The IAMCP goals are supporting and defending common ideas for improvement, developing a sense of community and education, advocacy and networking among partners.
