Miramar debuts ‘Noches de Barrio’ cultural evenings

The “Noches de Barrio” program builds on the success of El Mercado de Miramar’s daytime events and is extending those activities into the evening with an artistic focus.

Beginning Oct. 15, the Miramar neighborhood of San Juan will host “Noches de Barrio,” a new monthly event designed to blend live music, art, food and community life in one of the city’s most storied districts.

The initiative, a collaboration between the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and local merchants, will take place every third Wednesday of the month.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. with concerts at the conservatory and special events at El Mercado de Miramar, followed by a cultural and culinary route stretching from Ponce de León Avenue to Miramar Avenue. Restaurants, hotels, and small businesses along the corridor plan to offer art exhibits, tastings and other experiences.

Organized by Kaypi LLC and directed by Michelle González-Torricella and María Méndez-Calaf, the program aims to strengthen the connection between Miramar’s creative and business communities.

“‘Noches de Barrio’ is a natural extension of what we’ve already achieved with El Mercado de Miramar, a reminder that when the community comes together, culture flourishes,” González-Torricella said. “Now art can also be experienced at night, from the balconies, restaurants and streets of our Miramar.”

Méndez-Calaf said the project grew from a shared vision to turn Miramar into a cultural meeting point.

“We believe in the power of the collective,” she said. “This project was born from a genuine desire to make Miramar a vibrant cultural space where residents, artists and merchants can share and connect.”

The series will feature live jazz performances, a Paint & Sip night at Jamón Jamón and music at Hotel Don Rafa, with future editions expected to expand programming as participation grows.
