Jossiam Román-Fernández of Toñito Auto Mitsubishi in Guaynabo, a mechanics professor and winner of the 2025 Mitsubishi Motors Service Technical Contest in in Puerto Rico, will represent the island at the Mitsubishi Motors global competition in Tokyo on Dec. 18.

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Caribbean Inc. (MMSC) held the second edition of its Mitsubishi Motors Service Technical Contest in Puerto Rico, an event designed to strengthen the technical expertise of its dealership network and improve customer service across the island.

The biennial competition is part of Mitsubishi Motors Corp.’s global initiative to elevate the capabilities of service personnel and identify top technicians who will represent their markets in Japan.

MMSC President Akitoshi Ogawa said the effort reflects the company’s long-term commitment to safety, professional development and customer satisfaction.

“Through the competition, MMSC seeks to strengthen its commitment to the professional development of its dealer network, enhancing the skills of its automotive technicians and reinforcing the brand’s dedication to customer satisfaction,” he said.

Six of Puerto Rico’s certified Master Technicians participated in the 2025 contest. These technicians have completed advanced coursework and extensive hands-on training within Mitsubishi’s service network, including diagnostics, specialized tools and vehicle technology.

The winner, Jossiam Román-Fernández of Toñito Auto Mitsubishi in Guaynabo — who also teaches mechanics — received a cash prize and will represent Puerto Rico at the Mitsubishi Motors Service Technical Contest Global Competition in Tokyo on Dec. 18. He will also visit one of Mitsubishi’s Outlander SUV assembly plants.

Ogawa said the competition reinforces both technical excellence and the company’s broader goals.

“The Service Technical Contest is more than a competition; it is a celebration of our dealer network’s commitment to excellence and their commitment to providing the best customer experiences,” he said.

MMSC, which operates 20 dealerships across Puerto Rico, recently announced its Momentum 2030 plan, a strategy to refresh and expand its vehicle lineup with new or fully redesigned models annually through 2030. The plan includes combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
