Palmas del Mar, Para la Naturaleza partner to educate
Last November, Palmas del Mar Residents Association opened a new boardwalk, built a visitor center and a bird observation tower on the premises of the 56-acre forest.
The Palmas del Mar Residents Association and Para La Naturaleza recently partnered on an initiative through which residents will be able to join the latter’s Amigos program to learn about the Pterocarpus Forest located on the grounds of the Humacao resort community.
One of the Association’s goals is to restore and conserve the forest in perpetuity, which was established by a conservation easement with Para La Naturaleza. For its part, the membership program aims promote education and citizen participation in nature conservation.
Both organizations will conduct special educational and recreational forest conservation events for Palmas del Mar residents.
“We want more neighbors in Palmas del Mar to be directly involved with the conservation of its Pterocarpus Forest. With this agreement we give them the opportunity to contribute to its conservation, while they can enjoy — through their membership to the Amigos program — a year of adventures in the reserves and natural areas that the program helps protect,” said Fernando Lloveras, president of Para La Naturaleza.
