Puerto Rico Trade, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Trade and Puerto Rico’s Commercial Office for Panama and Latin America, is putting together a commercial mission to Peru, from June 5-8.

Participating companies will have the opportunity to launch or increase their export activity in this key South American market. Furthermore, they will have a chance to obtain market information, make new business contacts and establish new business strategies, among other benefits, said Economic Development and Commerce Secretary and head of P.R. Trade, José Pérez-Riera.

Businesses interested in taking part in the delegation have until Apr. 25 to register. During the trip, they will participate in meetings with potential clients and distributors interested in their product or service, and receive orientation on business etiquette and business practices, among other benefits.

The Peru market represents significant business opportunities for local businesses. In 2010 Peru’s economy remained buoyant, driven by growth in domestic demand. The outlook for 2011 points to an expansion of gross domestic product of close to 6.8 percent.

In Peru, investment is still the driver of economic growth, while consumption and exports continue to expand. Imports exports grew by 12.5 percent last year and its currency remained stable.

The Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Peru allows major benefits to island exporters because the companies pay lower in fees to attract millions of dollars in business. Puerto Rico exports chemicals, machinery, primary metals, computer and electronic products, wood products, miscellaneous manufactures and food to Peru.
