Puerto Rico participates in Statistical Conference of the Americas

The Puerto Rico Statistics Institute and its Executive Director Mario Marazzi participated this week in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean’s VII Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas, in Santiago, Chile.
“Marazzi’s participation is added to the agenda of exposing Puerto Rico to the world and benefiting from international discussions that are generated in the various organizations and especially, that they can learn about what we can contribute,” said the Secretary of State David Bernier.
The conference, known as CEPAL for its initials in Spanish, seeks to promote international, regional and bilateral cooperation among national offices and international and regional organizations to prepare a biennial program of cooperation activities that responds to the needs of the countries of the region.
During the conference, participants examined the most important issues for statistical development including institutional strengthening of systems and statistical offices, training of human resources, the development of statistical and methodological skills, and international and regional cooperation in these areas.
This is the third time this year Puerto Rico takes part in CEPAL as a delegation, the first two being in Montevideo and Dominican Republic earlier this year.
