San Patricio Plaza: Security is an ongoing strategy
San Patricio Plaza officials and security meet on a monthly basis with police authorities to discuss incidents and exchange ideas to help clear up cases and improve the mall’s security protocols.
Looking to ensure customers have the best and most secure shopping experience while at San Patricio Plaza, mall officials recently said they are “strategically working” on an ongoing preventive surveillance plan with municipal and state Police to uphold its mission of being one of the safest shopping centers in Puerto Rico.
“The issue of security is core for any mall or place where large numbers of people are concentrated. For a security plan to work optimally, it should be in constant evolution,” said Miguel González, vice president of operations of San Patricio Plaza.
“We’re continuously renewing, evaluating, looking for new technology and taking action. We’re periodically innovating every system and strategy,” he said reacting to recent criminal incidents in Guaynabo and in the vicinity of the mall.
As part of its security strategy, San Patricio Plaza has hundreds of security cameras in place, in addition to the ones kept by the mall tenants, he said.
“We’re one of the commercial centers with more cameras per square foot in the island. This ensures that any criminal act will be recorded and that material will help to clarify any offense, quickly. We have a policy of transparency and assisting in investigations. We do not believe in covering up incidents,” said González.
In addition, the mall has a parking lot with controlled access, which he said has dramatically decreased the incidents involving car thefts.
