PenFed Credit Union y EVERFI organizan el cuarto evento sobre educación financiera
PenFed Credit Union, in partnership with Everfi from Blackbaud, recently organized an educational event to improve financial literacy among more than 110 high school students from grades 9-12 at Rafael Cordero Molina High School in San Juan.
The students completed “Tu Dinero, Tu Sueño” (“Your Money, Your Dreams”), a digital financial education program provided by PenFed in alliance with Everfi, which is committed to fostering social change through education.
“PenFed believes the best way to serve Puerto Rico is to continue to empower the next generation to achieve their financial dreams,” said Jamie Gayton, PenFed’s executive vice president of Member Operations and Global Fixed Assets.
“We remain committed to investing in the development of Puerto Rico’s young future leaders and are grateful for the support of EVERFI and Escuela Superior Rafael Cordero Molina as we promote financial literacy and encourage students to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities,” added Gayton.
For five years, PenFed and Everfi’s partnership has delivered essential financial knowledge to more than 4,000 students in 39 schools across Puerto Rico, at no expense to the schools.
PenFed provides the Everfi curriculum to teach students vital financial skills, covering such topics as savings and checking accounts, credit management, major purchase planning, investments, retirement and funding higher education.
PenFed’s team, including financial, wealth and mortgage managers, engaged in a “speed networking” event with students who completed the Everfi program, where students had the opportunity to ask PenFed employees and volunteers questions about practical financial topics discussed in the course.
This is the fourth financial literacy event that PenFed and Everfi have hosted in Puerto Rico, with previous events in both private and public schools in San Juan.
At the conclusion of the event, PenFed awarded scholarships worth $1,250 each to two students in recognition of their achievements in the program.
“PenFed has made a long-term investment in improving the financial literacy of students in Puerto Rico and we appreciate and applaud their dedication to this critical topic,” said Ray Martínez, president of Everfi.
“The students in San Juan who took part in this program are incredibly talented and the stories they shared of the impact they hope to make on society were nothing less than inspirational. We’re proud to be able to work alongside PenFed to bring this education to such deserving students and to play a part in helping them achieve their dreams,” Martínez remarked.
PenFed operates financial centers in San Juan, Hatillo, Ponce, Mayagüez, and on the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Buchanan, with a Bilingual Service Center launched in Guaynabo in 2022.
