Plaza las Américas reshuffles tenants, adds more stores to mix

A CH Carolina Herrera boutique is opening at Plaza las Américas this Christmas.

The Plaza las Américas shopping center in Hato Rey will be adding two new tenants to its mix — CH Carolina Herrera boutique and the Disney Store — by the end of the year, mall operators announced Tuesday.

While it is the first appearance by CH Carolina Herrera, specializing in apparel, accessories and perfumes by the Venezuelan designer, it will be the return of the Disney Store, which closed at the mall in 2002. CH Carolina Herrera will move into a 1,300 square-foot space on the second level the corridor between JC Penney and Macy’s, joining several other boutiques, namely Hugo Boss and Swarovski.

Meanwhile, the Disney Store wil be located in a 4,600 square-foot space on the first level where clothing store Marianne used to be located. That store has been relocated next to Lladró and Sears on the first level of the mammoth mall.

“New store construction activity, coupled with several renovations and reorganization of the Gap group, will be occurring simultaneously starting now in the summer to get the stores ready for the Christmas season,” said Rafael Ruiz- Comas, director of corporate leasing at Plaza las Américas.

Gap stores, he said, are returning to the original format of having its concepts — Gap, Gap Body and Gap Kids — together in the mall’s main corridor, while Banana Republic is consolidating its operations in its store in the corridor between Macy’s and JC Penney.

The new boutiques and current tenant shifts are the latest in a flurry of activity announced at the mall in recent weeks. While Japanese restaurant P.F. Changs and Michael Kors are expected to open in coming months, there has also been talk of a Victoria’s Secret establishing its first location on the island at Plaza las Américas. Meanwhile, Pottery Barn is close to wrapping up its liquidation sale in anticipation of its closing Thursday.
