Plaza’s ‘Walkers Club’ members to get free Internet classes

Club members will be able to take courses free of charge at the Claro Customer Service Center located at the mall’s second level.

Keeping its commitment to social and technology development across all sectors of Puerto Rico’s population, Claro de Puerto Rico announced Monday the expansion of its basic Internet course program to include the group of “baby boomers” belonging to the Plaza Las Américas “Walkers Club” who visit the mall daily to walk and exercise.

Club members will be able to take courses free of charge at the Claro Customer Service Center located at the mall’s second level, company officials said during a news conference Monday.

“At Claro, we’re committed to promoting access to technology as a means to reduce the digital divide among our population,” said Yariluz Pérez, Claro’s customer service director. “One of the most successful programs under this commitment is the basic Internet course to customers over 50, through which we have trained more than 700 people in the past two years.”

“Is important for us to reach more people and today we are pleased to begin a series of sessions with members of the Plaza Las Américas Walkers Club,” she said, adding club members will be participating in three sessions that began Monday, with the possibility of adding more in the future.

Participants will learn how to use social networks, email systems, as well as visit pages dedicated to topics such as health, legal, entertainment, shopping, security and benefits for this age group.

In addition to these courses, Claro has designed an itinerary for people 50 and over who are signed up to regular or mobile service. Those courses are offered continuously at different Claro locations islandwide, including some located at other shopping centers.
