Looking to strengthen small businesses growth in Puerto Rico, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce and the U.S. Small Business Administration have partnered to exchange information and support resources in favor of the sector.

As part of this alliance, the parties will share current and relevant information on an ongoing basis, jointly collaborate with resources to provide lectures, counseling and documentation to support the creation of small businesses on the island.

“The best tool we have to face challenge and grow is knowledge, and that’s how this educational exchange alliance comes about. The commitment of both the [University] and the SBA is to create tools for owners and potential small business developers,” said Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico President Jorge Iván Vélez-Arocho.

The strategic alliance, which will be in effect for the next two years, states that the university and the SBA will hold joint collaborative orientation and training activities, share information regarding programs and services available to small businesses, and provide technical assistance.

“This agreement goes hand in hand with the mission we have to support, to counsel and protect the interests of small businesses, becoming their ally and looking for development tools,” said SBA District Director Yvette Collazo.

The SBA has strategic partnerships with the University of Puerto Rico, the United Retailers Association and the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce.
