Pontifical University, Casa Pueblo seal collaboration agreement

The Pontifical University in Ponce and Adjuntas-based nonprofit Casa Pueblo recently struck a partnership that pursues implementing economic development, agricultural, educational and cultural projects in central Puerto Rico through the exchange of ideas, services, resources and research techniques.
The agreement is good through June 2013, and will be run through the Pontifical University’s School of Architecture to provide both organizations a constant flow of information, resources, sharing of facilities and academic resources, benefiting students of the university, communities and the island, university President Jorge Iván Vélez-Arocho and Casa Pueblo Director Alexis Massol said.
“As a leading knowledge-generating institutions on the island, it is our responsibility to advance education and research to serve our communities,” Vélez-Arocho said. So it is a privilege for the Pontifical University to strike an agreement with Casa Pueblo, a serious organization, committed to the island, which strengthens human and cultural values. It’s a leader in environmental protection and influences the development of public policy that promotes the conservation of our resources.”
The joint plan guarantees a student immersion in daily community life, for which they will contribute to impact projects that prepare them to enter the professional arena after graduation. The agreement aims to establish long and short term goals and promotes access and the use of the facilities of both institutions.
Ultimately, the goal is to create a link between academia and the community by providing concrete and measurable changes, Masol said.
The partnership is up for renewal in the summer, up to three years.
