Popular rolls out new mobile banking services, iPad app
Developing an app for the iPad was “important” for the bank, given the ongoing growth of the use of tablets among customers.
Banco Popular de Puerto Rico announced Monday the addition of new free mobile banking services through its “Mi Banco Móvil” platform, including a tailored app for iPad users.
The new app gives selected customers the ability to deposit checks, categorize transactions, see reports and other money management tools tailored to the device’s dimensions. Furthermore, the app integrates the Touch ID feature already available via the iPhone app.
“One of the features we wanted to add was the money management tool that allows users to view in detail the expenditure and income categories for all of their accounts with the institution and see transaction trends over the last 18 months,” said Camille Burckhart, senior vice president of technology at Popular.
The money management tool, launched in 2012, provides a visual image of the breakdown of accounts and automatically categorizes the type of transaction among several options such as gasoline, entertainment, pharmacy, food, payments, transfers, or allows the user to create their own categories or labels.

“We wanted to provide a sophisticated and more functional mobile banking tool. More than 500,000 customers already use our electronic platforms every month and we are committed to giving them access to the most innovative advances available in the market,” said Burckhart.
Aside from launching the native app for iPad, Popular also announced it will open its mobile check deposit service to all customers starting next month. The service has been in beta testing since May 2014.
