Thousands of Banco Popular employees and their families donated their time Saturday to participate in the “Make a Difference Day,” to support nearly 100 community projects in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the U.S. mainland.

“During the Make a Difference Day, we positively affected the lives of many people and brought our message of unity and hope to the neediest,” said Popular Inc. CEO Richard Carrión. “This has been the commitment of Banco Popular for more than a century and will remain as such.”

Popular employees and their families rolled up their sleeves to support 69 projects in Puerto Rico, two in the USVI and 27 in the U.S. mainland. They worked on environmental, infrastructure, and reforestation projects, among others.

“Our Foundation’s major asset are our employees and volunteers. The generosity of our employees is not only quantitative but qualitative,” said Beatriz Polhamus, executive director of the Banco Popular Foundation. “Together with our families we make a difference in our communities to exemplify our corporate value of social engagement.”

The Make a Difference Day is an event that was created in 1990 by USA Weekend magazine and the Points of Light Foundation. The activity consists of a day of volunteer service where organizations, families and individuals come together to offer their time, talent and energy to institutions or individuals who really need it.
