Pridco, Polytechnic launch student internship program

La Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico en Hato Rey.

The Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co. and the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico have signed an agreement to launch an internship program for engineering students.

The program will place students in real-world projects at Pridco’s Property Management Office, with a focus on engineering, surveying and architecture.

“We recognize the value of opening doors to talented young people, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-life settings that directly contribute to Puerto Rico’s economic development,” said Roberto Lefranc, Pridco’s executive director.

He said the initiative reflects Gov. Jenniffer González’s vision of investing in youth and strengthening ties between academia and government.

The internships will offer undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to work on property evaluations, inspections and field analyses. Participants will also be asked to present innovative solutions to improve the management of industrial properties, which officials said will enhance Puerto Rico’s appeal for investment.

Sebastián Negrón-Reichard, secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, emphasized the program’s strategic importance.

“By integrating our young engineers into impactful projects, such as the optimization of industrial properties, we are strengthening the training of the next generation of technical and professional leaders while adding immediate value to our productive infrastructure,” he said.

Polytechnic University President Ernesto Vázquez-Martínez said the academic benefits are significant.

“This experience will allow students to apply their skills in engineering, surveying and architecture to highly relevant projects, while strengthening our commitment to developing highly qualified professionals ready to contribute to Puerto Rico’s economic development,” he said.

“At Pridco, we will work with a firm commitment to attract foreign investment, support the expansion of local businesses and create new employment opportunities,” Lefranc added.
