14 proposals move on to 2nd phase of ‘Producibles’

Producibles Finalistas composite

Design in Puerto Rico has launched a crowd funding campaign in Antrocket.com, at http://www.antrocket.com/es/designinpr.

The jury of the Puerto Rican design competition “Producibles” selected 14 proposals to remain in the race to represent the island at the Wanted Design NYC 2014 international design fair, Carlos Bobonis, director of Design in Puerto Rico, the organization that manages the competition, announced Monday.

A total of 28 designers submitted their work for evaluation by the jury, which comprises a group of professionals in design and related branches locally and internationally. As indicated in the call for Producibles, the goal of the competition is to produce industrial design objects with the quality to be presented at design fairs and to enter the international market for sale and consumption. The objects must be able to achieve quality fabrication through local manufacturing and include a complete product from concept to packaging.

The designers selected to advance to the next round are: Marx Rosado, Vladimir Garcia, Doel Fresse, Jesús Gomez, Felix Cardona, Neysha Mejias, the team of Christopher Castillo and José Ramirez, Bryan Torres, Nelson Talavera, the team of Luis Alonso and Cristina Centeno, Maria Blondet, the team of Marvin Arroyo y Omar Merced from Design FTT, and Alberto Green with two designs. Their proposals will be available for viewing at www.designinpuertorico.com.

“We are excited about the quantity and quality of the designs we received. It shows the island has enough talent to become a center for the development, manufacturing and export of designs made in Puerto Rico. That remains our goal, and the work of so many design professionals inspires us to continue working in that direction,” said Bobonis.

The selected designers must now present prototypes of their designs in collaboration with the Puerto Rican manufacturing industry. The final prototypes must be delivered by Feb. 15, 2014. Upon completion of the winners, Design in Puerto Rico will, for the second consecutive year, exhibit at Wanted Design NYC in May 2014 in New York City.
