Point Guard’s app offers a number of services.

Keeping Puerto Rican driver safety in mind, Point Guard Insurance recently unveiled its mobile application, through which customers can submit claims and verify status of existing ones, access contact information and roadside assistance services.

“Our service model integrates technology throughout our processes and is part of our strategy of agility. With this application, customers will feel more confident on the road in case of any accident or mechanical failures,” said Javier Cortés, who along with Luis López and Luis Miranda who established Point Guard Insurance two years ago.

This mobile application, which can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store for iOS as well as the Android operating system, provides interactive and fast services “that will let the users feel safer on Puerto Rico roads,” company executives said.

Point Guard entered the island’s compulsory auto liability insurance policy market in March 2011, through a strategic alliance with Antilles Insurance Company, as this media outlet informado.

Since then, it has underwritten more than 300,000 policies and averages an estimated 100 percent customer retention. Currently, the company has 105 employees in San Juan, Aguada, Ponce, Morovis, Manatí, Humacao and Carolina.

By law, the island’s 2.5 million drivers are obligated to pay an annual $99 compulsory auto liability insurance policy upon renewing their vehicle’s inspection and registration. Until Point Guard’s arrival as a viable option, and unless the driver requested otherwise, the policy was automatically referred to the Compulsory Insurance Joint Underwriters Association, or ASC.

The compulsory insurance provides $4,000 coverage per accident for damages caused to a third party.

The recently launched application contains a contact tab, which includes links to the company’s 24/7 call center and is in Puerto Rico, along with the addresses of each claims center. When chosing the center, Google Maps connects it with the client’s current location, becoming a GPS to get there.

The Point Guard Insurance app was designed by Boot95, while the web service, which tracks a client’s claim status, was implemented by in-house programmer Carmelo Vargas.
