Scuderi Group Inc. announced Thursday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Puerto Rico Police Association for the first Scuderi Split-Cycle Engine to be utilized as a liquefied petroleum gas generator with compressed air energy storage (CAES) capability.

This agreement begins the process of building and installing the first LPG-powered Scuderi power generator and energy storage system in an effort to lower electrical costs for four nursing homes and administrative offices located throughout Puerto Rico.s

“We are excited to begin working with the Puerto Rico Police Association to reduce their electrical costs,” said Sal Scuderi, president of Scuderi Group. “Not only is this an important step in the continued development of the Scuderi technology, it also starts the process that we believe will provide an effective solution to an island that is burdened with some of the largest energy bills in our hemisphere.”

The Scuderi Split-Cycle Engine incorporates a highly efficient power generation and CAES capability. When applied to properties with large power demands, the system has the capability to reduce electricity consumption up to 20 percent.

According to the agreement, Scuderi Group will build and install power generation units, including the Association’s San Juan headquarters and adjoining elderly care facility. Other locations include buildings in Trujillo Alto, Ponce, and Maunabo.

The Puerto Rico Police Association is a nonprofit organization created nearly 75 years ago that serves thousands of public employees in Puerto Rico. With many services offered, it maintains and operates several health, civic and public resource facilities, and is one of the largest organizations in the Americas.

“We see a lot of potential in the Scuderi engine technology to help us substantially reduce our electrical costs and lower our emissions,” said José Taboada de Jesús, president of the police association. “We look forward to working with Scuderi Group to put together the best system that works for us.”
