Puerto Rico Prosthetics unveils island’s 1st prosthesis-making robot
Puerto Rico Prosthetics, a Puerto Rican company with more than 25 years of experience in the manufacture of high-tech orthotics and prostheses with specialized services, announced the acquisition of the first robot in Puerto Rico capable of making prostheses in real-time.
The patient will be able to leave with their prosthesis on the same day, assisted by Dr. José A. Hernández, owner of Puerto Rico Prosthetics, as part of the services included in the Prosthetics V-7 Life Generation proprietary product.
The VICTOR robot integrates the Carve & Cut technology, which allows it to produce the prosthesis parts on site. It works like a three-dimensional printer that generates the most detailed parts of the prosthesis in approximately 7 minutes.
VICTOR makes the piece on a polyurethane material, creating a very specific sculpture tailored to each person and with precision, taking into account age, weight and body mass, he said.
“It’s estimated that 2,500 leg amputations occur annually in Puerto Rico. Our responsibility and passion are to offer our patients and medical staff the highest quality prosthetic products and technology,” said Hernández, CEO of Puerto Rico Prosthetics.
“During the past 25 years, we’ve worked hard to acquire new technologies to make life easier for prosthetic and orthotic patients. We’re pleased to present that we are the first on the island with the most recent acquisition of this device, for the benefit of our patients,” he said.
The company has two locations — a laboratory located in Manatí for the manufacture of devices and a second location in San Juan for customer service.
