Puerto Rico desarrollará un mapa interactivo de logística y carga
Puerto Rico’s Department of Economic Development and Commerce is launching an effort to create an interactive map of the island’s logistics and cargo infrastructure to support planning and boost competitiveness.
The project will begin with a request for information directed at companies, logistics operators, trade groups, free trade zone concessionaires and government agencies involved in the movement of goods.
“This initiative seeks to create a tool that many U.S. states and countries already have — one that centralizes all relevant data about our logistics and cargo infrastructure,” said Economic Development Secretary Sebastián Negrón-Reichard. “It will help both the public and private sectors make more strategic, data-driven decisions.”
The proposed map will include details on airports, seaports, warehouses, distribution centers, cargo routes and transportation services, covering air, land, sea and intermodal options. It will also incorporate data on certifications, regulations and available technologies.
An electronic form to collect information was distributed this week and will remain open through Aug. 15. Negrón-Reichard urged all stakeholders to participate. The form is available on the agency’s website.
“We are calling on all logistics-related entities to collaborate and provide the data we need,” he said. “Our goal is to develop a digital dashboard that puts Puerto Rico on par with competing regions, making the island more attractive for business and investment.”
The initiative is part of a broader economic development effort led by Gov. Jenniffer González-Colón. The Puerto Rico Ports Authority and Department of Transportation and Public Works will contribute data and technical input.
Negrón-Reichard noted that the dashboard could especially benefit sectors like life sciences, which rely on efficient logistics. “Facilitating access to logistical information will give the private industry another reason to choose Puerto Rico as a base of operations,” he said.
The announcement was made during the government’s weekly “En Récord” press briefing series.
