Puerto Rico’s Amasar earns B Corp status for sustainable food mission

Marisol Villalobos, founder and CEO of Amasar

Jayuya-based Amasar LLC has achieved B Corporation Certification, becoming one of Puerto Rico’s agro-manufacturing companies to join the global movement for a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

The company, which produces gluten-free flours from breadfruit, earned the certification following a comprehensive evaluation by B Lab, the nonprofit that oversees the global B Corp standards.

“As an agricultural company, our certification process was long and involved an in-depth evaluation of our environmental practices, labor policies, business decisions and community impact,” said Marisol Villalobos, founder and CEO of Amasar.

She credited the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust with helping the company strengthen its internal processes and align with global sustainability benchmarks.

“In addition to serving as a guarantee for consumers, this certification also positions Amasar to attract strategic partners who share its values and vision,” Villalobos said.

Amasar’s mission centers on promoting a resilient food system through science, community engagement and support for local agriculture.

“From day one, we’ve been committed to building a business rooted in good — through science, from our farm in Jayuya, and for Puerto Rico’s future,” Villalobos said. “We invite more Puerto Rican companies to join this path.”

The company continues to expand into the U.S. market, offering high-fiber, gluten-free breadfruit flour while supporting food education and economic development on the island.
