Puerto Rico’s regional airports offering free WiFi access
The Antonio Rivera-Rodríguez Airport in Vieques now offers WiFi connectivity.
Puerto Rico Ports Authority Executive Director Víctor Suárez announced Wednesday that the regional airports in Aguadilla, Ponce, Ceiba, Vieques and Culebra are now offering free WiFi access as part of the agency’s plan to improve its infrastructure throughout the island.
Airport users and passengers will be able to access the service from any point within the terminal area.
Six other airports are currently being outfitted with wireless connectivity: Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla, Mercedita in Ponce, Benjamín Riviera Noriega in Culebra, José Aponte de la Torre in Ceiba, Antonio Rivera Rodríguez in Vieques and the Fernando L. Ribas Dominicci Executive Airport in Isla Grande.
“To attract new concessions and airport operations, our facilities must meet the demands of users and the market,” Suárez said. “The wireless internet service is a first step in technological progress for the benefit of our passengers at regional airports. This service is of great importance for tourists and business travelers passing every day through our regional airports.”
Users must type in the “IslaEstrella” password to access the service on their laptops, tablets or smartphones.
Ports estimated that about 1 million passengers that use the facilities each year will benefit from the new service. While the government-run regional airports are now offering Wi-Fi, the same cannot be said for the island’s main airport, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, which is run by a private operator.
