Saborea ’16 gathers culinary stars for weekend of eats

The 9th edition of “Saborea Puerto Rico: A Culinary Extravaganza” fest will bring together more than 80 local chef and invited Food Network and Travel Channel chefs who will demonstrate their skills this weekend.

Clarisa Jiménez, president of the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association the annual foodie gathering will draw all eyes onto the island, already known as a gastronomic mecca in the Caribbean.

This year’s roster of star chefs includes the Food Network’s Anne Burell, Simon Majumdar, and Emily Ellyn, and the Travel Channel’s Ben Vaugh. They will participate in cooking demos at Saborea’s main kitchen, in tandem with some of Puerto Rico’s most recognized chefs.

“Gastronomy is an essential part of tourism around the world because it makes the experience attractive and the destination appetizing. Our chefs are our island’s ambassadors,” said Jiménez. “They showcase our gastronomy to the world.”

“Saborea Puerto Rico is synonymous of world-class cuisine, where we reaffirm without doubt that our island is the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean. Today we begin four days full of exquisite foods for the enjoyment of both locals, visitors, and tourists,” she said.

The Saborea Puerto Rico weekend events will also offer the opportunity to taste food from more than 70 local restaurants, in addition to a wide variety of wines, beers, and distilled spirits at the event’s Tasting Pavilion. As special guests, wineries from California will provide the best of their vintage. There will also be a variety of desserts and coffees available for tasting.
