The Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association offered details Wednesday of this year’s edition of Saborea Puerto Rico: A Culinary Extravaganza, which trade group President Clarisa Jiménez called “the most important culinary event in the Caribbean.” In its seventh year, the event will take place April 4-6.

Puerto Rico without a doubt is a favorite location among food lovers worldwide and Saborea Puerto Rico has contributed for the past seven years to reunite the best culinary talent in one scenario for the enjoyment of the local public and tourists who visit,” said Jiménez.

“In this edition, we will have the best local talent showcasing their best dishes as well as international figures such as Deborah Mazar and Gabrielle Corcos of the Extra Virgin progam on the Cooking channel; Susie Jiménez of the seventh edition of The Next Food Network Star; Brian Voltaggio of Top Chef and Top Chef Masters and chocolatier of the stars Jonathan Grahm, named one of the 30 under 30 by Forbes magazine,” she said.

Saborea Puerto Rico will gather 50 local restaurants, wineries, beers and distilled spirits at the Tasting Pavilion set up atop an oceanfront bluff in the Escambrón park in San Juan. Representatives from California vineyards will return as special guests, she said.

Last year, Saborea Puerto Rico pumped some $1.7 million into the local economy, generating 2,700 hotel room nights, the PRHTA said.

“San Juan is known as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean. Saborea Puerto Rico offers our local and international public a tour of our best culinary traditions, novel fusions and excellent work of renowned chefs,” said Ingrid I. Rivera-Rocafort, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co.

“Our participation in activities like Saborea lays the foundation of the efforts that we have been constantly developing at the Tourism Co. to attract and strengthen culinary tourism as a niche market that has grown and generated a positive impulse in the economy,” she said.
