Samsung, ITU host mobile apps for accessibility contest
Samsung Electronics, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), announced Wednesday the second edition of the “Mobile Applications for Accessibility” competition to promote the creation and development of solutions with mobile apps dedicated to accessibility on the Android platform.
The initiative has the support of Samsung Development Institute for Informatics, which will also be part of the jury, the company said.
The competition is focused on the development of innovative and creative solutions that benefit people with disabilities, creating more social inclusion, interaction, comfort and quality of life through mobile technologies.
To participate in the contest, the candidate must submit an idea for a mobile solution aimed to accessibility or information about a solution that has already been developed. Individual and team entries will be accepted on the official ITU website, through the link “Submit your idea,” until June 15, 2016. Participants will have to present their proposals until July 31, 2016, using the form available on the website along with additional materials.
The solutions will be analyzed by the judges, which will be formed by Samsung and ITU representatives, as well as experts in the various areas related to mobile products and services, in addition to representatives of organizations that support people with disabilities and special guests. Winners will be announced during the “Accessible Americas III: Information and Communication for All” event, to be held Nov. 28-30 in Mexico.
