En resumen

El tráfico del aeropuerto de San Juan cae un 4.21 % hasta alcanzar 1.2 millones en diciembre

El Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín es el principal centro de transporte aéreo de Puerto Rico.

Passenger traffic at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport totaled 1,234,875 travelers in December 2025, a 4.2% decline from the 1,289,410 passengers recorded in the same month a year earlier, according to data released by airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR).

The decrease was driven by weaker domestic travel. Domestic passenger traffic fell 4.8% year over year, declining from 1,141,041 travelers in December 2024 to 1,086,470 last month. International traffic edged up 0.3%, increasing from 147,369 to 148,405 passengers.

The figures reflect both arriving and departing passengers and exclude transit travelers.

Jorge Hernández, president of Aerostar — ASUR’s local operation — said the 4.2% drop in traffic relates to a drop in seat capacity when compared to 2024.

“Year over year, total traffic increased by 3% compared to 2024,” he said.

Muñoz Marín Airport is Puerto Rico’s primary air gateway and the only airport on the island operated within ASUR’s network. Its December results contrasted with performance across ASUR’s broader airport system, which reported 6.7 million passengers in December across operations in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia, a 0.4% increase compared with December 2024.

Colombia recorded the strongest growth, with passenger traffic rising 6% year over year, while Mexico posted a slight decline of 0.4%.

Puerto Rico’s results point to shifting travel patterns at year’s end. While international demand showed modest growth, the larger drop in domestic travel — historically the airport’s largest segment — weighed on total traffic.
