The Santa Isabel Wind Farm project recently earned the “Outstanding Project of the Year Award” in Land Surveying and Environmental Engineering. The accolade, given by the Professional College of Engineers and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico, recognizes projects that promote the use of local land surveying and engineering firms and professionals.

“The Santa Isabel Wind Farm project met or exceeded the criteria for this award in the disciplines of Land Surveying, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering,” said Lillibeth Torres, president of the trade group’s Guayama chapter. “We are really pleased that Puerto Rico can count on this kind of project and the great quality of professionals involved with it.”

The “Outstanding Project of the Year” award was created to acknowledge meritorious projects in Puerto Rico to recognize and promote them within and beyond the island’s boundaries. The award was also designed to honor and motivate the leadership of all participating professionals, recognizing the owners and developers of the projects for hiring local professionals.

“We are proud to receive this recognition as it reaffirms Santa Isabel Wind Farm as more than just a clean energy company. We’re also about investing in the local economy and empowering local talent and professionals in order to create a better quality of life for everyone through sustainable and renewable energy solutions,” said Collie Powell, the project’s general manager.

“As a responsible corporate citizen it is our duty to put Puerto Rico’s quality resources and human capital to good use,” he said. “We focused on hiring locally so that we could offer a unique opportunity for local residents to develop the necessary skills and expertise for future renewable energy initiatives.”

To bestow the award, the trade group concluded that the wind farm exhibited the effective utilization and combination of technologies, resources and methods that included the integration of land surveying, geographical information systems, remote sensing and global positioning systems among others.
