Sartorius Stedim Biotech announces $20M Yauco expansion

German medical device maker Sartorius Stedim Biotech announced plans for a $20 million expansion at its industrial complex in Yauco, which will add 87 new jobs and a new filtration systems manufacturing line to its operation.
“We have chosen Puerto Rico to develop our new operations because we have a very educated workforce,” said Mary Lavin, president of the Sartorius Group in North America. “The government’s support of our growth initiatives in the Americas has also been an important factor weighing on our decision.”
In exchange for the investment, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co. will give Sartorius a $5,000-per-job incentive and $1.6 million for a portion of the construction costs and other technical services, Pérez-Riera said.
Sartirius Stedim Biotech already occupies four Pridco-owned buildings spanning 87,000 square feet of space. The company established itself in 1982. The operation has grown over the years to become the company’s regional distribution center for the Americas of its filtration systems.
