Aon grants 9 scholarships to Puerto Rico students
The group of students who received awards from AON to pursue their studies.
Aon, a global provider of risk management, insurance brokerage, reinsurance and human resources consulting and outsourcing services, and the Community Foundation for Puerto Rico jointly presented nine scholarships to as many local students in recognition of their academic achievements.
Eight of the nine winning students were selected through student outreach efforts Aon held through June 2014 in search of excelling students with economic needs. Maredh López-Ocasio, a 10th grade student at Notre Dame in Caguas, was the only student with a renewed scholarship, and has been able to retain this financial aid over five years. More so, she is also the only recipient in high school.
The Aon Scholarship Fund provides up to $2,000 per student as an aid to their undergraduate studies. The organization also offers other forms of assistance to students such as workshops to practice the skills and knowledge they obtain through their studies.
“In Aon our prime focus is to support the education of Puerto Rico’s future professionals, which are our youth,” said Diana García, vice-president of Aon in Puerto Rico. “Our youth needs all the support we can provide them to reach their objectives and accomplish positive positions in our society.”
Meanwhile, Mary Ann Gabino, senior vice-president of the Community Foundation of Puerto Rico added, “The Aon Fund was established five years ago with the purpose to provide educational opportunities for the academically talented adolescents.”
“In five years we’ve seen the fund grow, and Aon, their friends and other institutional allies have participated actively in this growth. It’s an honor to serve as a philanthropic supporter to Aon and be a part of their philanthropic growth,” she said.
The goal of the program is to provide incentives to motivate young Puerto Rico students who are academically distinguished, leaders, or community developers yet face economic challenges upon finishing successfully their college career in the areas of human resources, accounting, finances or business administration.
