Scotiabank fundraisers benefit muscular dystrophy, youth clubs

A pair of recent fundraising efforts by Scotiabank employees and clients have benefited a trio of important nonprofits helping muscular dystrophy patients and looking after Puerto Rico’s youth, the bank announced.
For its first donation, Scotiabank conducted a fundraising campaign among its staff and clients collecting $28,552 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“We are delighted with the support received from our employees and customers for this past fundraising initiative to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” Scotiabank President Peter Bessey said. “We want to thank everyone who participated in the activities and made this initiative a reality. MDA patients need our support and I am proud to see that we have citizens committed with this important cause.”
Meanwhile, the bank recently held its 2nd Invitational Golf Tournament in benefit of the Teen Challenge and Boys & Girls Club, each receiving $15,000. While Teen Challenge provides emotional, physical and spiritual support to teens and their families during the drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation process, the Boys & Girls club seeks to keep youth off the streets through organized sports.

The tournament took place at the Trump International Golf Club in Río Grande, for which more than 200 players signed up to play simultaneously on the International and Championship courses is an institution that has multiple chapters islandwide and whose efforts are focused on preventing violence by encouraging the practice of sports among children and adolescents living in public housing complexes.
“This type of event gives us the opportunity to provide real help to those entities that have a genuine commitment to youth and are tasked to support citizens in their time of need,” Bessey said. “Furthermore, this event represents an excellent opportunity to spend time with our customers and partners outside the usual banking environment.”
