SBA seeks to fund entrepreneurship training

SBA District Director Yvette T. Collazo

The U.S. Small Business Administration is inviting funding proposals from nonprofit organizations, state, local and tribal government agencies, and institutions of higher learning to provide “Boots to Business” entrepreneurship training to service members, military spouses, and veterans.

The agency announced Wednesday that the funding competition, offered by SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development, will enable delivery of the global Boots to Business program.

The program provides entrepreneurial education and training to military service members and spouses (including members of the Reserve and National Guard) via the U.S. Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program.

“The Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands district office is fully committed to providing our military community with the necessary training and resources to start and grow prosperous small businesses,” said SBA District Director Yvette T. Collazo.

“Over the past three years, we have successfully conducted 12 Boots to Business workshops in Puerto Rico and four Reboot workshops in the PRVI district, helping hundreds of service members and their spouses get one step closer to realizing their dreams of entrepreneurship,” she said.

“This funding competition will allow for even more military families to achieve that goal,” Collazo added.

SBA anticipates awarding between one and four cooperative agreements from this grant announcement. A maximum of $2.5 million in funding is available annually for up to five years. The initial award is for 12 months. At the end of the initial grant period, SBA has the option to continue the grant annually, up to an additional four years.

Eligible, interested parties should submit their proposal HERE by 11:59 EST on Feb. 17, 2017.
