The new $13 million renovation of the Bay Shopping City mall is in its final stage, paving the way for the opening of the new retail offering in Bayamón during the last quarter of 2015, mall administrators announced.

The reincarnation of what was known as the Bayamón Shopping Center, one of the first shopping centers to operate in Puerto Rico back in the 1950s, features an enclosed design and European-inspired environment. The two-story, 252,000 square-foot mall is located on the corner of Routes 2 and 167.

“Bay Shopping City is a modern concept, european-like, with a cutting-edge approach that mixes traditional architecture with what is modern, affordable and feasible,” said Lysette Colón, mall administrator. “What it aims to offer customers is a total experience…in a fun, clean and safe place where they feel at ease while shopping or coming to eat.”

At present, the administration is negotiating with a possible anchor tenant that would move into a two-level, 60,000 square-foot space. That title was once held by Marshall’s which had a store there up until several years ago.

The mix is expected to include stores, restaurants and entertainment venues on the first level, and a 32,600 square-foot food court on the second level with seating for 800 customers. The mall also features 850 parking spaces, including an underground area with controlled access for greater security.

“While the details are worked out, we’re showing the facilities to potential tenants that have expressed an interest in moving their businesses into Bay Shopping City,” Colón said.
