Small inn owners: ‘Much work ahead for the DMO’

Tomás Ramirez, head of the trade group and owner of the Combate Beach Resort in Cabo Rojo.

The Association of Puerto Rico Small Inn (“Paradores”) Owners expressed its support for the recently created Destination Marketing Organization, betting on a 20 percent growth in visitors if the purpose of the law is fulfilled.

“We greatly welcome the adoption of this law, authorizing the creation of the DMO. We are convinced that it will be beneficial to Puerto Rico, and its implementation will have a positive impact on all tourist regions and the various industries on the island,” said Tomás Ramírez, president of the association.

The DMO aims to develop tourism through marketing strategies based on the needs and trends of the national and global market.

“The Association of Puerto Rico Small Inn (“Paradores”) Owners is committed to this project’s success and will work with the other members of the Board of Directors to implement the organization and processes for marketing the destination our island needs,” he said.

“We know that Puerto Rico is the most accessible and complete Caribbean destination, and visitors could grow up to 20 percent without new capital investment. We need to focus on creating new demand for our island, and the DMO should facilitate that,” said Ramírez.

“We concur with the governor that this law is one of the most important ones for our island, because it focuses on economic development, creating new jobs we so badly need, and seeks effective utilization of all resources and the 11,000 attractions that we already have,” said Ramírez.

The Association of Puerto Rico Small Inn (“Paradores”) Owners has been part of the struggle for the establishment of the DMO for years. Ramírez agreed with government officials that the DMO should develop the destination brand, promote Puerto Rico, attract visitors and increase the island’s global exposure.

“Today we begin a new route. We know that there is much work ahead for the DMO to start producing results our island so needs,” said Ramírez.
