Passenger traffic at Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport fell in November as domestic travel to and from the island declined, according to data released by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR).

Muñoz Marín Airport is operated by Aerostar Airport Holdings, a joint venture in which ASUR holds a 60% stake. The facility is Puerto Rico’s primary gateway for international and mainland-U.S. flights and operates under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Pilot Program for public-private partnerships.

ASUR, which operates airports in Mexico, Colombia and Puerto Rico, reported that traffic at the island’s main airport totaled 1,009,681 passengers in November, down 2.9% from the same month in 2024.

The drop was driven by a 4% decline in domestic traffic, which fell to 871,299 passengers. International traffic increased 5.1%, reaching 138,382 passengers.

Year to date, Muñoz Marín Airport has handled 12,408,811 passengers, a 3.8% increase compared with the first 11 months of 2024. Domestic traffic for the period rose 2.5%, while international travel increased 13.2%.

ASUR reported mixed results across its broader portfolio. Passenger traffic increased 5.9% in Colombia and 1% in Mexico during November, while Puerto Rico was the only market to post a year-over-year decline for the month.

In Colombia, international traffic grew 8.7% and domestic traffic rose 5.1%. Mexico saw a 2.1% increase in international traffic and a 0.1% decrease in domestic travel.

Across all markets, ASUR handled 5.9 million passengers in November, an increase of 1.5% over 2024. The figures exclude transit and general aviation passengers in Mexico and Colombia.
