Student projects will be showcased and judged during the program closing event on May 12.

The Associated General Contractors of America, Puerto Rico Chapter, in coordination with the Department of Education will conduct the annual closing of its “Build Up!” and “On Site!” programs May 12, when some 300 children and 50 adults from island public schools will gather.

The “Build Up!” and “On Site!” programs were created in 2001 with the goal of educating students in elementary and middle schools on the various types of construction and employment opportunities that exist in this industry. In addition, the program encourages young people to continue their studies in high school, vocational school and college regardless, of the career they choose.

The projects are developed through a series of lessons that teach mathematics, English, science and social studies. They are designed for students in 5th grade (“Build up!”) and 7th grade (“On Site!”) and provide activities that relate to the student’s environment and teaches them about the construction industry and the different professions that exist in it.

AGC members provide mentorship along with teachers and program sponsors.

Student projects created through the program will be judged May 12.
