T-Mobile adding iPhone 5 to lineup April 12

Wireless carrier T-Mobile announced Tuesday its plans to introduce “radically simple” unlimited plans, eliminate contracts, and add new devices to its portfolio, including the highly-anticipated iPhone 5, which will be available starting April 12.
While the new plans will be available in the U.S. market, Puerto Rico consumers have had access to no-contract, unlimited options for quite some time.
However, in the states, the carrier’s move seeks to “address consumer frustration with the unnecessary cost and complexity of wireless,” T-Mobile said in a statement.
Its strategy calls for offering the “Simple Choice” plan for unlimited talk, text and Web, ensuring that customers never have to sign another annual service contract through T-Mobile retail outlets, and enabling customers to get the most popular smartphones whenever they want for the lowest upfront cost.
T-Mobile’s no-contract strategy will also free customers from having to lock themselves into a two-year contract when wanting to upgrade plans or equipment.
T-Mobile also announced Tuesday it will have several new 4G LTE-capable devices available, including Samsung Galaxy S 4, BlackBerry Z10, HTC One, T-Mobile Sonic 2.0 Mobile HotSpot LTE and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
“Acquisition of additional spectrum will provide existing and future customers higher quality voice and data on our network while opening the way for the development of the LTE network, which will be even faster than our HSPA+42 network,” said T-Mobile Puerto Rico General Manager Jorge Martel.
“More importantly, this investment demonstrates our strong support for strengthening Puerto Rico’s economy,” he said, adding that T-Mobile will launch LTE Puerto Rico this year.
The local T-Mobile executive also confirmed the arrival of the iPhone 5, joining its main competitors in selling the blockbuster smartphone. The device will be available starting April 12, with unlimited data plans starting at $69. T-Mobile is already taking pre-orders through its website, and will reportedly sell the smartphone for $99.
“While the new plans will be available in the U.S. market, Puerto Rico consumers have had access to no-contract, unlimited options for quite some time.” And The US has had them too, they just changed to no contract Plans all around, and if Puerto Rico’s Tmobile doesn’t change to the No-Contract model I won’t consider them as an option. I get the feeling they aren’t implementing the new model.
