Toyota topped this year’s list of “most admired automotive companies” in the world according to the results of the latest survey by business magazine “Fortune.” Toyota shares the distinction with the likes of Apple, Nike, Starbucks and Walt Disney, which led their respective categories.

Nancy Navales, vice president of Toyota of Puerto Rico, said “to be seen in the same league with these prestigious companies is an honor and a result of our commitment to excellence. Our spirit of continuous improvement is in everything we do, from the vehicle manufacturing experience, to our dealer network, and our administrative and operational processes. The goal is always to give our all to do things in the best way possible, from the start.”

Toyota excelled in the Fortune list for the efforts made to handle the issue of air bags manufactured by Takata, having been the first automaker to market a hybrid car, the Mirai, on a large scale, and its investments to promote the development of alternative fuel technologies, specifically hydrogen.

The editors of Fortune created their list of most admired companies in the world measuring nine attributes considered essential to the overall success of a company, including quality management, social responsibility, human resource management and global competitiveness, among others. The results are generated by a survey of more than 4,000 executives, directors and analysts.
