TransCita increases fleet to 130 vehicles
The new units are inspected daily to maintain safety standards, the company said.
What started as an entrepreneurial idea seven years ago to transport patients to medical appointments and treatments employing only four vehicles, recently increased its fleet of vehicles to 130 to provide non-emergency health transportation to services throughout Puerto Rico, company officials announced.
Since 2007 TransCita has shuttled patients to appointments for treatments including dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, healing of ulcers and laboratories, among others.
“The increase in the number of vehicles will increase the number of routes, which will allow us to transport more passengers,” said TransCita President Jorge E. Ruiz-Roman.
The new units are inspected daily to maintain safety standards, the company said. They have air conditioning, comfortable interiors, GPS tracking system that locates the location of the vehicle at all times. Meanwhile, the buses are equipped with hydraulic ramps designed to pick up passengers in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
Most drivers are paramedics or emergency medical technicians, who are trained to handle the needs of the passenger. TransCita offices are located in San Juan with satellite offices for service in Aguadilla, Arecibo, Guayama, Juana Diaz, Mayagüez, Naguabo, Rio Grande, and soon in Caguas and Manati.
