Trinidad & Tobago looks to export natural gas to region
With the U.S. Shale revolution and Cheniere on the cusp of exporting natural gas, Trinidad & Tobago’s biggest LNG customer is soon to become its main competitor.
Trinidad & Tobago’s LNG export to the U.S. has fallen dramatically over the past couple of years but selling on the spot markets in Asia, Europe and South America has allowed it to diversify its LNG export markets and benefit from countries offering higher prices.
Subsequently, along with supplying natural gas to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago has recently started supplying to Argentina and Chile.
The debate between the U.S. and Trinidad & Tobago on who will gain competitive advantage for supplying LNG to Latin America and the Caribbean will take center stage at the second annual LNG 360° Forum Latin America & Caribbean, in Houston on Jan. 14 – 16, 2014. The forum will uncover the strategic and commercial opportunities related to LNG projects in the Americas, particularly in light of the increased demand for diversification.
Along with views from the exporters, how will potential Central and Latin American importers like Panama and Argentina develop their security of supply? Leaders from the Panama Canal Authority, AES Corporation and GDF Suez Central America will be discussing this alongside the current project updates that will shape the future of LNG in these evolving regions.
