Trip Advisor readers rank Flamenco Beach 5th in world

The pristine, white-powdered sands and turquoise waters of Flamenco Beach — on Puerto Rico’s island municipality of Culebra — have earned it a fifth place ranking among the world’s top 10 beaches included in Trip Advisor’s “2013 Travelers’ Choice Beaches Awards.” The travel site announced the results Wednesday.
Based entirely on feedback from millions of TripAdvisor travelers, 276 winning beaches were named around the world. Dedicated lists highlight travelers’ favorite beaches in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Middle East, the U.S. and more.
“For those planning their summer vacations, spring break trips, or just looking for a weekend escape from the winter doldrums, take inspiration from TripAdvisor travelers that have visited these beaches and given them the highest levels of praise,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. “These beaches provide some of the finest spots around the globe to enjoy water activities, sun and sand.”
Flamenco, also a favorite of Puerto Rico residents, beat out five other preferred beaches Playa de las Catedrales, Ribadeo, Spain; Lopes Mendes Beach, Ilha Grande, Brazil; Horseshoe Bay Beach, Southampton Parish, Bermuda; Eagle Beach, Aruba; and Rhossili Bay, Swansea, Wales.
The Culebra beach trailed Rabbit Beach in Lampedusa, Italy; Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos; Whitehaven Beach, Airlie Beach, Australia; and Baia do Sancho, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil.
Trip Advisor readers also picked out their top 10 beaches in the U.S., where California, Hawaii and Florida took the honors.
