Uber adds new safety feature to enhance transparency for drivers
Rideshare platform Uber has introduced a new safety feature in Puerto Rico that allows drivers to view how many trips a rider has completed before accepting a ride request. The information now appears alongside the rider’s rating in the app.
“This new feature is the result of actively listening to drivers. We understand that having more information before accepting a trip, such as knowing how many trips a rider has taken, can make a real difference,” said Manuela Bedoya, safety communications manager for Uber in the Andean Region, Central America and the Caribbean.
The new tool is one of more than 30 safety features available on the Uber platform in Puerto Rico for both riders and drivers. Others include audio and video recording, rider ID verification, and the option for drivers to block or unpair from specific users.
“Safety is not a stand-alone goal; it’s a continuous process. Every new feature we launch is part of a broader approach to help ensure more reliable rides, where both drivers and riders feel safer before, during and after the trip,” Bedoya said.
Uber has operated in Puerto Rico since 2016 and is available in San Juan, Mayagüez and Ponce.
