Employers in all industries and sectors will be able to take in college students for a three-month internship, through Universia Puerto Rico’s “Fogueo Laboral” program, which recently received a $210,000 investment for scholarships.

Participating organizations will serve as practice centers, and in turn students will get paid professional experience focused on their area of study. Interested companies may register through the universia.pr website, and pay a fee of $350 per student through Nov. 6. Applying after the deadline will carry higher sign-up costs, Universia Puerto Rico officials said. Students will receive a total of $1,500 for their three-month internship.

The program is sponsored by Banco Santander, the Education Council, and universities affiliated with the Private Universities Association, which signed a collaborative agreement earlier this week.

During the signing at the bank’s headquarters, Banco Santander President Fredy Molfino stressed the importance of investing in the development of university students through projects such as “Fogueo Laboral.”

A total of 140 students will be eligible to participate in the program, Universia Puerto Rico President José Miguel Justel said.
