Universia survey: Job opportunities are off the island
Universia is a network comprised of 1,290 universities, representing a total of 16.8 million university students and teachers.
A recent survey conducted by the Universia-Trabajando.com Labor Community revealed that more than half, or 69 percent, of respondents from Puerto Rico believe that there are more job opportunities outside the island.
Of the 593 participants, 46 percent think that those options are in North America, particularly in the U.S. mainland, 30 percent looks to Europe, and 11 percent to South America.
However in the short term, 45 percent of Puerto Ricans see themselves working on the island on something related to their studies. About 26 percent see themselves off the island, working on something related to their academic background, and 22 percent believe they would stay local working in something unrelated to their studies.
The survey involved visitors to the Trabajando.com and Universia websites. The total 8,664 of the participants residing across Latin America were from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain and Portugal.
About 47 percent of respondents said they would work in Europe, specifically Spain, followed by 20 percent who would in North America. Less than half of the, or 48 percent, saw themselves staying in their country working on something related to their studies.
The Universia-Trabajando.com Labor Community is the regional leader in finding work for youth. Last year, it published more than 2.8 million job offers from 97,176 companies throughout Latin America.
