AT&T has been improving transmission speeds available in the USVI.

AT&T announced Wednesday it has upgraded 15 St. Croix and St. Thomas cell sites to expand 4G LTE coverage and capacity for customers. With 4G LTE, customers will get faster mobile Internet speeds, improved performance and reliability.

On St. Croix, two cell sites have been upgraded with LTE technology to provide 4G LTE service in the areas of east Christiansted along Road 82 and along Roads 60 and 82 on the east end of St. Croix. Another seven 4G LTE cell sites on the island have been upgraded with additional capacity, which helps improve the performance of mobile Internet data and voice connectivity.

The areas benefitting from the capacity upgrades in St. Croix include Little La Grange, Queen Mary Highway, Carlton North in St. George Hill; Queen Mary Highway and the airport area in Mount Pleasant; and Mary’s Fancy, Sunny Isle and Work and Rest in the center of the island.

On St. Thomas, capacity upgrades to six cell sites are benefitting the areas of Road 42 and Tutu in Smith Bay; Crown Bay and Frenchtown in Careen Hill; Road 30 and the airport area in Nana Hill; downtown Charlotte Amalie, the cruise ships area and the Yacht Haven Grande marina in Estate Ross; the Frenchman Bay and Flag Hill areas; and in the Bovoni and Benner Bay areas on the east end of St. Thomas.

“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience, and they’ll be able to download, upload, stream and game faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network,” said AT&T Regional Vice President for Puerto Rico & USVI, Ray Flores.“ As part of the U.S. Virgin Islands community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we’re accomplishing that.”

The network upgrades are part of AT&T’s continuing network investment in the USVI. AT&T launched 4G LTE in St. Thomas and St. Croix in June 2013. Over the past six years (2008 to 2013), AT&T has invested more than $140 billion into its wireless and wireline networks, including acquisitions of spectrum and wireless operations.
