Villa Cofresí marks 60 years with $3M expansion plan
Hotel Villa Cofresí in Rincón is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a $3 million investment in expansion and modernization projects.
The family-owned property, considered a tourism landmark in Puerto Rico’s western region, announced the improvements as part of a three-year plan that includes solar panels, five new rooms and land for additional parking.
Other upgrades include a 35,000-gallon cistern with a reverse osmosis system, a new electric generator and remodeling of the activities hall.
The plan also calls for a new event hall, the purchase of an apartment to integrate into hotel operations, expanded administrative offices, replacement of air conditioners and windows, improvements to the main entrance, a security gazebo and updates to furniture, bathrooms and parking areas.
“These projects reflect our gratitude to the community, our employees and the thousands of guests who have joined us over these six decades. We’re excited about what’s next and committed to continuing to grow sustainably, authentically and Puerto Rican-style,” Sandra Y. Caro-Caro, the hotel’s manager, said.
The 121-room hotel employs 100 people, making it the second-largest employer in Rincón. To mark its anniversary, Villa Cofresí hosted a cultural and musical celebration and awarded $60,000 in employee bonuses — $60 for each year of operation.
“Villa Cofresí was born from a family’s dream and today remains a project of unity, effort and love for Puerto Rico. We look to the future with optimism and the certainty that we will continue to be a home by the sea for those who visit us,” Caro-Caro said.
