Visa data shows 25% spending boost from Bad Bunny shows

Visa reported that consumer spending in San Juan surged during the opening weeks of Bad Bunny’s historic residency, “Yo no me quiero ir de aquí,” at the Puerto Rico Coliseum.

Preliminary figures show total transactions with Visa payment methods rose by more than 25% from July 11-27 compared to the same period last year. The trend was driven by visitors attending the first nine sold-out concerts of the 30-show residency.

Spending spikes were strongest near the venue in tourism-related categories. Fast-food restaurants saw increases of 200%, department stores 35% and clothing and apparel about 15%. The busiest spending days were July 11 and July 18, when restaurants and quick-service outlets recorded the most transactions.

The residency also sparked international activity, with nearly 15% more Visa cardholders traveling to Puerto Rico from abroad compared to a year earlier. The United States led arrivals, followed by Canada and the United Kingdom. U.S. visitors accounted for the largest share of spending, followed by cardholders from the Dominican Republic and Spain.

“The success of this concert series highlights the close relationship between world-class entertainment and economic growth,” said Javier Vázquez, regional leader of Visa Consulting & Analytics for Latin America and the Caribbean.
