‘W Certified Company’ adds 3 new categories to boost female retention
Women Who Lead has opened the 11th edition of its W Certified Company program, which recognizes organizations in Puerto Rico that meet standards for inclusion and competitiveness aimed at attracting and retaining female talent.
This year’s program adds three categories: Preferred Company for Mothers, Preferred Company for Young Professionals and Preferred Company for Women 55+.
“These distinctions address a harsh reality: companies in Puerto Rico are losing the battle to attract and retain female talent,” the organization said in a statement, adding that positioning as the place “where women want to grow, lead and stay is now the new competitive edge.”
Frances Ríos, creator of the W Certified Company designation, said she has heard from employers who have struggled to fill vacancies because their corporate cultures do not align with women’s values or priorities.
“Some companies have had more than 300 open vacancies for months,” she said. “Why? Their cultures aren’t appealing to women, who have very specific needs and priorities. This lack of cultural transformation is costing them their competitive edge.”
The W Certified Company 2025 designation is based on results from the DNA Index, a diagnostic tool that evaluates pay equity, leadership, flexibility and purpose.
“This is not a decorative seal, it’s a strategic tool,” Ríos said.
“This self-imposed audit by W Certified Company reflects their commitment to rigorous, solid evaluation in line with the highest standards,” said Doris Barroso, managing partner at RSM Puerto Rico, which audits the program.
Organizations can registrarse and learn about participating companies including Baxter, Abbott, AON, Boston Scientific and ManpowerGroup.
