Wal-Mart Puerto Rico names new GM
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced Thursday the appointment of Jaime Fernández Palacios as general manager for the Puerto Rico region, where the retailer operates 55 Walmart, Sam’s Club, Amigo and Súper Ahorro stores.
His appointment comes several months after Renzo Casillo, who oversaw the local operation for several years, was promoted off-island.
Fernández began his career with the mega-retailer in 2008 and prior to his promotion was vice president of consumer strategies, supervising the areas of marketing, other income, new formats, private labels and supplier development.
“His broad local and international experience, together with his profound knowledge of the retail market make him the ideal candidate to assume the role of general manager for the Puerto Rico region,” said Joaquín González, senior vice president for Walmart’s Florida division.
“We trust Jaime will be able to successfully take the Walmart Puerto Rico operations to the next level and continue meeting our mission of helping Puerto Rican families save money so they can live better,” González said.
Prior to joining Walmart Puerto Rico, Fernández held several leadership positions at Procter & Gamble and The Clorox Co. in Puerto Rico, the U.S. mainland, Mexico and Central America. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in finance from Xavier University in Ohio.
Walmart Puerto Rico currently runs seven Walmart stores, nine Supercenters, 10 Sam’s Clubs, 27 Amigo Supermarkets and two Súper Ahorro discount grocery stores.
