Walmart to buy all UHT milk from Indulac, spurring $2.5M in sales

In keeping with its commitment to support local industry, Walmart Puerto Rico announced Monday an agreement whereby it will buy 100 percent of the Ultra High Temperature milk it sells on the island from Industrias Lecheras de Puerto Rico. Prior to the agreement, Walmart imported most of its UHT products from the U.S. mainland.
The deal will represent $2.5 million in annual sales for Indulac, as the milk processing plant is known. Walmart will purchase 1.3 million quarts of UHT milk cartons for Walmart, Sam’s Club, Amigo and Super Ahorro supermarkets, to be sold under the Great Value, Members Mark and Daily Chef private labels starting in July.
Héctor Quiñones, Indulac manager of sales and purchases said, “this agreement will maximize product sales, will ensure the permanence of the jobs in our plant, while retaining about .70 cents of every dollar on the island.”
Indulac’s UHT milk will join existing Indulac brands sold at Walmart, including UHT 2%, and 1%, skim, and the whole and skimmed vanilla, chocolate and strawberry options.
“This is an important step in strengthening the local dairy industry. Our company is committed to supporting locally produced goods and through this agreement we substitute milk imports to make room for what’s produced and manufactured in Puerto Rico,” said Francisco Feliú, Walmart’s corporate attorney.
“This way, we put excess UHT milk produced and manufactured on the island by Indulac in the retail market and prevent its dumping,” he said. “We’re proud that our private label has the taste, quality and freshness of what’s produced here.”
Amazingly Surprised, after tasting this Puerto Rican manufactured milk. I would have to say you can’t tell any difference in the american made milk. I love Indulac 1% excellent source of vitamins. Placed in the freezer to ice (though it needs it not) theirs nothing like a glass of ice cold milk. Being a us citizen if I could be and would be a marketer of this product. It definetly meets my level of freshness and quality. People don’t know what they are missing, most think if it dose not come from the store in a gallon jug with an american label it must be fake like powdered milk. Don’t knock it till you try it. I have a 946 ml green carton of your 1% fat milk. It has an expiration date of Jan 1513. If kept in a cool place, is it still good to drink?
